Here’s a pool I photographed that I didn’t even know was there , even though I’ve walked past it hundreds of times…
And a real wow when I walked in to photograph the area with a wall of natural light and the stark contrast of the blue pool against all the white.
This was a refit by builcorp construction , who had to remove a rotting timber deck from a fully operational apartment tower in the centre on Brisbane CBD. The results are amazing and changed the look of the pool area dramatically… The old shots of the pool area are still visible when you google the oaks apartments Charlotte towers.
There are many challenges that you face as a photographer…. but being presented an empty office floor with it’s only exciting feature was thankfully some creative lighting by the architects…. I appreciate the creative challenge the architects were presented with…. ” we need to show an empty office and what could be done in the space without putting walls or furniture”…. And the answer is light!! Light is everything… And the use of modern lighting in a raw environment does more than light, but gives the space a personality..
My work with architects takes me around Australia to photograph great building in the major capitals and rural centres… This performing arts centre designed by Graypuksand architects located 2 hours north of Melbourne in he city of Ballarat at Loretto College…. A state of art performing arts complex including an auditorium, rehearsal rooms for all aspects of the arts…. set in amongst Loretto’s historical buildings.
The Port Brisbane is always a location of extremes….. from an empty key-line to a hive of industrial activity when the ships come in to Port….
The Problem is that most people have a corporate portrait that is then used across all media….
Social Media/Corporate portfolio ….. takes the traditional corporate portrait to a more stylised image to better represent your individuality….
This formalization of a collection of imagery that will be the basis for how you want to be viewed across different media… It also equips you with a media kit and different images for different channels..
Having variety of images will enable a broader reach across the web through the different channels….. from social sites to associations and industry bodies.
Late last year I won 3rd place in Commercial Category in the US WPPI 2nd half year members Competition. with an image of a office interior shot for Buildcorp Brisbane…. Also won 5 other silver awards…
A morning shoot with Brittany Lester from Birdie & Bow started the usual way, photographer , make up artist and client….. but the model missing in action… So the the Brittany the Milliner and creator of the amazing hats stepped in to model her own creations….. And to model with flair and style.
This month I celebrate 20 years of MD Photography…. 20 years of self employment….. 20 years of having fun doing what I love…It’s been a great journey and I feel like I’m only half way though….
My business/photography and myself have changed/grown and adapted to enable me to keep doing what I love and excited about going to work everyday.
So here are some of the ideas and values that have been the foundation of who I am and why I do what I do.
Just survived a great weekend of nail biting judging at the QLD state Awards…… Watching those 5 scores slowly come up on screen then a deep breath when someone challenges the score…… I will admit I couldn’t watch some of the judging… very nerve racking..
I walked away with 2 silver distinctions and 2 silver awards in commercial… 2 Silver awards in Illustrative and silver award for a commissioned portrait..
